Rebecca Wheeler

Health Educator, Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education

Rebecca Wheeler, MA, MEd joined the Poe staff in February 2014 with the Substance Use Prevention team. Originally a native of the Tidewater region of Virginia, Rebecca came to North Carolina as a freshman at Campbell University. She earned a BA and MEd in English, and then worked as a teacher for Wake County Schools for eleven years. While teaching, Rebecca added a teaching endorsement in Psychology and completed an MA in Professional Counseling at Liberty University. The majority of her teaching career, she taught AP Psychology, and has been involved in writing Psychology curriculum for secondary schools on both the local and state levels. She continues teaching as an online instructor for Baker University. After leaving the school system, Rebecca became a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, and completed a certificate in therapeutic yoga with Duke Integrative Medicine. She is particularly passionate about helping children and adolescences develop coping and stress management skills with the hopes of preventing addictive behaviors. Rebecca also serves as a Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer.
